That was beautiful as I laid here in bed and watched . I will definitely be adding this to the beginning of my asana class on Thursday . Funny because I started class this way last week, but this week I will hold it for 5 like you did . Great way to transition from a busy day to the beginning of class !

Yes yes yes! You are the only person in your student's life who holds space for silence.

Thank you Lizzie I love it for myself. I have tried to teach a couple of my students but they found it difficult to bring their head to the floor. Should they skip this pose. I was afraid to suggest using a pillow, that it might cancel the affect of the backbend.

Exactly. If you raise the head then you're decreasing the energetic signature of the pose. I would suggest trying a lower amplitude with your students. Like using a thinner blanket. But in the end, it might not be the right pose for their bodies.

Beautiful! Did it right after teaching a class and I now I feel like I can do whatever is left to do today (make dinner, laundry etc) with a much more light heart. Thank you so much!

And also loving this new space here at substack!

Hello Lizzie, this is wonderful and I loved your explanation of the transition from the outside world to the inner which so often is described in an over complicated way! I love doing this and often practice it but I’ll try a cushion next time. I also really liked the scarf idea! I also really like this platform, it feels much more personal. X

So glad it landed with you, Sophia

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been using a narrow cushion for a gentle backbend for a while now. I feel it’s a lot softer than blankets. I was going to ask what your view was on that, so thank you.

I love the scarf trick. 🙏🏽💜

Hi Lizzie I just did your one blanket backbend with you. However, I had to adjust the cushion lower under my hips so that my back didn't hurt where I have sponylolisthesis at L5 S1, once I'd got it where I felt comfy, then it was lovely. Thank you! Blessings xxx

Thank you Lizzy! Recently I have been practicing this pose without knowing it is a 'real' yogapose! I felt I needed to do something to bend te spine in a gentle way in the opposite position of sitting, driving, even cycling all day. Now I am even more confident practicing this pose knowing that I am doing nothing wrong for the spine. So happy to know!
