Yoga leaves no room for escape.
On the mat, I settle into sensation, into breath, watching my mind wriggle, escaping into thinking and planning.
In that way, my aim in asana is not so much the shapes I make, but rather training my attention.
So that off the mat – where I spend my life – I’m learning to notice this same pattern of escape. And sometimes, sometimes, make different choices.
Do you know what I mean? Have you felt that in your practice?
Talk soon,
Lizzie

All the great teachers say STAY PRESENT… but only recently have they shared ihow difficult that can be , especially in this rapidly changing plethora of distractions that surround us. Yoga contains all the practice I use to support my true self in this environment: asana, pranayama, meditation and wisdom teachings which can appear in many forms if you can only sustain your attention and open your eyes wider so you can be your best self and that will benefit all life on this planet. Namaste!
Wonderful! I agree with you, Lizzie, and there lies the wisdom in not escaping.
