Happy new year. I have been enjoying the somatic strengthening, few questions. Particularly to the exercise on the floor raising leg- as we are doing till fatigued will this still be balanced between left and right legs as we often advise doing more on the less strong side? Should we be doing same number on each side at some point into the practice?
Considering students with a total hip replacement can they do this practice with toes pointing to the sky but still going through treacle?
The intention is to train the weaker side to meet the stronger. Ideally, after some time, the person will be able to perform the same number of repetitions with the same load on both sides.
Re: total hip, which I sport myself:) This is a low-risk exercise — open chain, non-weight bearing. The foot position is a matter of personal preference. Some folks like pointed toes, others flexed feet. Still others have no preference. Experiment and notice how/if foot position affects the feel of the exercise.
The class with MR was very interesting - as she described, a bit far from yoga practice (do Mary movements everyday, sitting practice every day, SATYA movements everyday, asana sequence everyday - quite a lot of to dos - not to mention savasana practice everyday) - closer to physical therapy. Thank you for the opportunity to experience this sequence.
So much to learn from toddlers - age three is my favorite. The imagination is so strong. The somatic strength session one was good. However, I would not introduce resistance bands for new, older or injured population until you witness a solid foundation for the basic. Also, the core cannot be emphasized enough. Your core is your “powerhouse” and protects your spine.
Thanks for the frequent gifts. This time your strategy worked. After experiencing the strength session with MR, I bought the whole course. Looking forward to diving deeper.
Hi there 🙋♀️ and thanks for sharing so authentically 🙏🏻
I've recently been reading Janet Lansbury posts (https://www.facebook.com/janetlansbury) based on Magda Gerber teachings (very similar if not identical to Montessori principles... 'teach me to do it by myself' ) and find them very constructively instructive regarding accompanying children at their pace... simple and respectful... and a relief to know in many ways...
Happy continued learning on all levels with the joy and zest for life of our inner and outer children 🌟
And HEARTFELT THANKS 💖🙏🏻 for the much appreciated gift session 🎁✨,
gratefully,

You’re so very welcome!

Thankyou, have a good day, sarahx
Oh, great question, Sarah. I'll pass along to Mary who can hopefully reply here...

Yes, good points. I'm always encouraging myself that self-care practices are additive. Not more "shoulds" that weight me down.
So much fun learning with little people! Always love reading your Sunday emails! Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays to you too, Carla. Thank you for being here...

Ha! Well I'm happy you did. Welcome to the learning adventure, Betty...
