Frustration is the space between expectation and experience.
This is my mantra right now. At the gas station with my three-year-old twins yesterday, for example. I wasn’t in a rush because I had nothing else planned for the snowy afternoon. So we took our time. The boys “helping” pump the gas and marching into the little shop to look around and watch me pay. It took forever. But I wasn’t frustrated because I wasn’t expecting it to be quick.
Where can you readjust your expectations this holiday season? Would this help reduce your chance of feeling frustrated with yourself and others?
I’m working with this idea a lot right now as I’m at the beginning of a month solo-parenting the twins while my partner sails across the Atlantic ocean. It’s a big adventure for us all. I’ll let you know next week how it’s going. Wish us luck!
And please enjoy the above full-length guided Restorative yoga practice for exhaustion. Inviting your body to be comfortable and still and silent is one of the most powerful ways to downshift your nervous system. Remember: you also deserve to rest.
Until next week,
Lizzie
