My practice is a solitary one. This time of year, it’s still dark when I creep downstairs and into my studio. I light a candle and a stick of palo santo incense before I sit to meditate. Then, I shift into a few minutes of somatic strength and a few minutes of asana in silence until one of the twins wakes up, and I’m caught in the swirl of coffee and breakfast and emptying the dishwasher and showering and dressing and arguments about brushing their teeth and rushing to get out the door on time for kindergarten.
I'm one of those rolling onto the mat in PJs folks. Sometimes I feel like I'm just going through the motions, but collectively these moments add up and do make a difference to life 😊 Appreciate the relatability of your posts 🙏
Oh Lizzie, I so appreciate your sharing, writing, & humanness. I too find it helpful to be reminded of the wider community always out there...especially during those times my practice feels solitary & pointless. Thank you for giving voice to this!
Thank you for all your regular postings, always so honest and relatable to! Yes I also have squeezed that precious time into my day. It gets easier as children grow up and leave home and is still the most important part of my day! I’ll be thinking of you when I practice today! X
I thought of this poem about Rabbit Pose when I read your post and was compelled to share it with you. I have been there so many times. In yoga we practice surrender. But full-time hands-on mothering is another level of surrender that is hard to explain at times. But it is there and it is real. Sending love, poetry, peace… and hopefully another opportunity very soon to land on the mat uninterrupted.
I adore "thanking us for our practice. Grateful...there's a wide community always out there.

Thank you, I appreciate the humanness of your writing.
We forget sometimes that we are only human.
With you in spirit. We have to trust the practice is working its magic, even if we can't feel it in the moment.

Is the Palo Santo incense subtle?
