In light of the US election results, I keep thinking about this quote:
The first action to be taken is to pull ourselves together. If we are going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb, when it comes, find us doing sensible and human things -- praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts -- not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds. ― C.S. Lewis
So this week, I’m counteracting my fear by focusing on doing small but sensible and human things. Here’s my list:
Drinking pots and pots of herbal tea
Ignoring my emails in favor of chatting with a girlfriend
Reading Dr. Seuss books with the twins
Wearing my most cozy outfits
Listening to uplifting music
Baking lasagna and butternut squash and chocolate chip cookies
Walking along the river in Salzburg
Sauna and baths
And, of course, Savasana.
What sensible and human thing can you do to take care of yourself today?
I love you,
Lizzie
outside, outside, outside!!!!!!!
A very timely quote. Thank you Lizzie.
I'm blessed enough to be going to a day of physical, emotional and spriritual nourishment with a group of women gathered to share their life skills. My offering will be a yoga nidra - my absolute go-to in times of stress. Yoga nidra and savasana are twin practices for human sanity and resilience.
