More and more I understand my yoga practices as opportunities to train my attention.
The point of focus shifts – in Dog Pose it’s the tightness in my calves, in Pranayama it’s the micro movements that accompany slow breath – but the big idea remains attention itself. It’s actually a paradox: the more I disconnect from external stimulus, the more I can connect with myself.
Maybe you’ve heard the idea that when something online is free that means you are the product. Well, more precisely, your attention is the product. Beware the shameless algorithms out there hunting our attention.
Attention, willingly given, is what I’m after. I’m so honored that you’re here with me, reading this, sharing this precious moment of your short life. Thank you.
I’d love to know: what needs does this newsletter meet? In other words, what moves you to open my emails week after week? What problem am I solving for you?
I’m shifting my consumption to a curated (paid) social media platform for creatives. It’s the vision of Australian photographer-pirate Pete Longworth who believes we can all make content that matters. If that resonates, here’s your link for a free trial.
And finally a reminder: just because tomorrow is Monday doesn’t mean you need to grind. You are not a machine.
Join me on Monday, February 28th for a free savasana session. We’ll practice live together at 10:30 am Salzburg time. Sorry Americans, I know it’s early. But I’m hoping some of my beloved Australians can join the fun this time. Recording going out here next week.
Talk soon,
Lizzie
Upcoming ways to connect:
Shoulderstand is Mama’s favorite pose - and a powerful tool to shift into parasympathetic dominance. Enroll in our March masterclass and receive the recording to our Headstand session for free.
Ready to become a certified Restorative yoga teacher? We’re only planning to offer one online training this year - and it starts soon.
Pranayama is often taught as a way to restrict the breath, using complex counting methods to achieve increasingly long holds. This focus on control leads to hardening. And practicing this way misses the delicious truth that the breath is breathing you. Join our March workshop Letting the Breath Breathe You: Practicing Pranayama With Compassion to learn a softer approach.
Do you want to practice more Restorative yoga, pranayama, and meditation? Join us for Silence is Everywhere: a three-day experiential Zoom workshop (with recording).
i love the frankness and the wonderful way you bring me back to the present, thankyou sarahx
