A month before I got pregnant, Nico and I celebrated New Year’s Eve in India: on an Enfield motorbike road-trip (chai stop pictured above) and then wise-cracking into the night with friends around a bonfire in Mahabaleshwar, a posh hill-station.
This year, we celebrated in quarantine: with our two-year-old twins. Nico (Omicron positive) and I (negative) wore masks while we grilled veggie dogs outside in the cold. The twins held sparklers, and I drank one glass of organic Grüner Veltliner white wine.
Two completely different films. But, both were, somehow fabulous.
Dear, 2021: thank you for your many humbling lessons.
Dear 2022: May I find joy in the small pleasures of pandemic life and parenting, and the courage to find silence every day.
And lastly, dear reader, I’m looking forward to spending 2022 with you. It’s an honor to walk this path together. Thank you for being here.
Until next Sunday,
Lizzie
