It’s crunch time; Christmas is exactly two weeks from today.
I’ve got to bake all the cookies and buy and wrap all the presents and send all the holiday cards and finish all the work projects and don’t forget packing and deep cleaning the fridge and doing all the laundry and getting a haircut. Plus someone I trust said I need to go have my eyebrows “done”. So add that to the list.
This time of year plays into all of my delusional fantasies about “finishing” everything. Because then, my thinking goes, then I’ll finally deserve to rest. Once everything is “done” I’ll feel less anxious and more able to enjoy my holiday break with family in Connecticut.
Well, at least that’s what the over-achieving voice in my head says. Sound familiar?
Savasana is one of the most powerful tools to disrupt this thinking pattern. Lying down to rest for 20 minutes in the midst of my busy day is a signal to my nervous system that it’s ok to down shift.
So my motto this week is Savasana is happening. Now. Not when everything is done. Because (spoiler alert!) that moment never comes.
If you want an audio companion on the mat, here’s a free full-length Yoga Nidra practice from the delightful Mary Richards.
Wishing you the space to create a few minutes of silence amongst the crunch.
Until next Sunday.
Lizzie

Are you overwhelmed by the demands on your attention? Taking Refuge Coming home to yourself on the mat is a January immersion that explores physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual refuge. How great does that sound?
Thanks for the links ! I wonder if you will be teaching the restorative course again anytime soon? I’m sorry I was not able attend in October. I am in Switzerland.
