I just watched my three-year-olds turn a whole house quiet.
We’re spending the holidays with my brother and his big family in Connecticut. It’s a house full of cooking and cousins and conversation.
Today at nap time the twins refused to go upstairs, instead insisting on resting in the living room. And the strangest thing happened: the whole house quieted down around them. The bigger cousins started whispering and working on a puzzle together. The adults settled down with their books.
So the next time you feel the urge to rest, especially at the holidays, I challenge you to lie down in the midst of your people. Take silence as a way to share silence. Think of napping as your superpower.
Because, just like my three-year-olds, I’m guessing you’re much more fun to be around when you give yourself permission to rest. Am I right?
Until next Sunday,
Lizzie
