When I started teaching Vinyassa yoga (at YogaWorks in Los Angeles in 2005) I was embarrassed to tell people about it. Because I thought I was fat. And that I didn't have a “yoga body".
Can you relate? Like/comment below.
When I imagine that (not fat) 22 year old girl, I just feel sad.
Almost two decades later, I can say with confidence: yoga is not about the body. Of course you need a body to practice yoga. But the body is just the beginning. It’s like the location for the party.
Today, I’m sharing another 15 minute Non-Sleep Deep Rest audio track. It’s like a guided Restorative Savasana, without all the props. The focus is on down-shifting your nervous system from sympathetic into parasympathetic dominance. And playing back and forth between witnessing the breath, and merging into the breath.
If you enjoy the practice, please like/comment over on YouTube.
Until next week,
Lizzie
What are you doing this summer?
June: come meet me in Paris for a long weekend Restorative yoga immersion.
August: how about a Slooow Flow and Restorative retreat with me and Mama in the wild woods of Montana? Last summer we saw an actual moose swim across the lake. A moose! Only 5 spots remain.
September: join me for a week of dolce far niente (sweet doing nothing) in southern Italy. Sold out except for triple room with shared bathroom.
I love the statement, "It's like the location for the party." It makes me smile and is freeing.
Yes I can!!!
My perception of having a yoga body is everything in the right places and I just don’t have that.
I am working through my yoga teacher training course and realising that I am embracing my body for what it is and quite liking it and thanking it every day for carrying me through life.🙏🙏❤️
